We are firm believers in working with nature, instead of fighting it. So because our soil is naturally acidic, we decided to grow blueberries, which are about the only fruits that can appreciate these types of soils, rather than liming and changing the nature of the soil.
Eggs
Our eggs are sold via the organic Woodland Brand in Sainsbury's, and when the blueberry harvest time comes also at the farm gate and via our delivery round.
In the daytime the hens have full access to the entire farm including the woodlands, orchard and fields. We keep two types off chicken: the white Amberlink, and the brown High-line.
The eggs are accredited by OF&G (organic certification), Freedom Food (the animal welfare scheme from the RSPCA) and Lioncode.
At the end of the laying period we sell as many chickens as we can to local people who will then keep them in their back garden. We will have chickens for sale at the end of February and the beginning of March 2008, and then again in May 2009.
Blueberries
Contrary to the eggs, all blueberries will be sold to organic shops, restaurants and box schemes in the South West and Bristol. During the harvesting season we will also have a local delivery round, supplying eggs and blueberries within a 20 mile radius around Bedport farm and at the farm gate.
Health Benefits
Apart from very tasty, blueberries are very health as well. No fruit or vegetable contains as many anti oxidants as blueberries do. Anti oxidants play a major role in fighting cancer.
For those really interested in the matter; blueberries also contain other phytochemicals such as Pterostilbene, which in experiments reduced lesions in the bowels in rats. There is anthocyanide which is a preventative against liver cancer, and there are Ellagtannines (which are antioxidants) which block the metabolisms that produce cancers in lungs, gullet, bowels, liver and skin.

Our produce will be sold to box schemes, restaurants, shops and also directly to the public at the farm gate and there will be a delivery round within a 20 mile radius around Bedport farm. A minimum order of £10.00 will then be required.
