C02 Policy...
At Bedport farm we are producing approximately 39 tonnes of CO2 per year, mostly by the electricity usage of the chicken houses, but it also includes fuel for the tractors, cars and all our private usage.
The 4000 woodland trees that we have planted will probably absorb about 40 tonnes per year. (10 kg per tree per annum according to several web sites), so technically we are compensating for our CO2 emissions.
By adjusting our ventilation regime we hope that this year we will reduce our electricity usage by as much as 10%. All electricity we buy in from Ecotricity a green energy provider.
We are hoping to build a wind turbine within the next three years, which will make us completely self sufficient for electricity and in addition to that, will also supply approximately 1200 households with electricity! Watch this space!
